Author Guidelines
MANUSCRIPTS FORMAT
Manuscript headings and sub-headings are aligned to the left. The beginning of every paragraph should also be aligned to the left margin. Typescript should be double spaced; paragraphs should be blocked and indicated by an extra line space between them. All pages must be numbered consecutively. Abstracts and division into sections are not necessary for manuscripts submitted as short communications.
ARRANGEMENTS
The text of the articles should be presented in the following sequence: Title, Author(s) Name(s) and Address (es), Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussions, (or Results and Discussion), Acknowledgements(optional), and References.
TITLE PAGE
The title of the paper should, if possible, be concise and informative enough to reflect what is contained in the text. This should be a separate page and contain the name(s) of the author(s), their addresses and e-mail addresses. In case of more than one author, indicate who correspondences should be addressed to. Author’s names should be written with the surname first followed by the initials of the other names.
ABSTRACT
This should be in a separate page. The abstract should be a concise statement of the scope of the work and the principal findings in not more than 200 words all in one paragraph, using one sentence each to describe the aim(s), methods, results, and final conclusions within the limited space. Not more than six key words should be provided after the abstract.
INTRODUCTION
This should contain essential background information from peer-reviewed articles in scientific journals, reference works, and textbooks on the experiment you have conducted. This should argue the case for the study. State also the objectives of the research. Text references should be written in the form: Aliyu (2007), Fasidi and Kadiri (2002) or Peter et al. (2006) for more than TWO authors. All text references must be cited chronologically. An extensive literature review is not necessary.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
Procedures and materials used should be described in sufficient detail to allow repetition by other workers. Previously published methods or protocols can be quoted. The full scientific name(s) of plant(s) or animals used, as well as cultivar (cv.) or variety (var.) where applicable should be provided.
RESULTS
Describe the data obtained from the experiments using statements, tables and figures. Tables and figures should be kept to a minimum. Any data already presented in a Table or described in the should not be represented in a Figure and vice versa. Statistical calculations, which should include the sample size for the statistical test, and the P-value, should be presented. All Tables and Figures must be numbered in the order in which they are cited in the text.
DISCUSSIONS
This section may be combined with the results if desired. Discuss and refer to the results obtained in the experiments and link the results to your original goal or idea. Compare the results obtained to other published studies. If your results are not what you expected, try to explain why they differ.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS (optional)
This should be concise where applicable.
REFERENCES
References should be arranged alphabetically according to first author using the Harvard referencing system. When one author has several publications they must be listed out chronologically. When two or more papers have the same author and published in the same year, the letters a, b, c, should be added after the year. When the publication carries the name of an editor and not the author of the article, insert "(ed.)" between the name and the date of publication. If there is more than one editor, use the abbreviation "(eds.)". When the reference includes both author(s) and editor(s), insert the phrase "edited by" after the title of the book. The title of a journal must be given in full and italicized. Only published articles, books and articles ‘in press’ may be cited. In some cases citation of personal communication may be permitted. The following examples of references are acceptable:
