Intersticios

Prof. Miguel Ferreira, editor-in-chief of the new publication Intersticios, has targeted the journal to highlight innovative social science theory and methodology. It provides an opportunity especially for younger investigators to showcase their research, with rapid turnaround in the editorial process and unrestricted global access to the accepted papers.

As Dr. Ferreira, Professor in the Department of Sociology and Social Policy at Universidad de Murcia, Spain said: "El servicio prestado por Scholarly Exchange con su soporte Open Journal Sistem es realmente eficiente: todo el proceso de configuración y puesta en funcionamiento de la revista "Intersticios" ha sido rápido, diligente y, sobre todo, muy inmediato, con un sistema de asistencia y ayuda permanente.

[The service that Scholarly Exchange provides in supporting Open Journal Systems is very efficient: configuring the system for our purposes was rapid. We were able to launch immediately. Scholarly Exchange provided the help we needed to achieve this rapid startup].

He added: “Espero que muchos editores puedan beneficiarse de este recurso como yo lo he hecho.?

[I hope that many other journal editors can take advantage of this opportunity as I have.]

The editorial board is composed of leading sociologists from five major universities, four in Spain and one in the United States.

Advances in Disease Surveillance

Advances in Disease Surveillance focuses on public health, epidemiologic, biostatistical, and bioinformatics work relevant to detecting emerging diseases and disease patterns around the world. ADS is the official journal of The International Society for Disease Surveillance.

"Starting up a journal was as easy as making a phone call. All you need is a domain name, Scholarly Exchange, and time," remarked co-editor Ken Kleinman, ScD. "Since Open Journal Systems was running and ready to use on the Scholarly Exchange server from the very beginning, we were able to start the journal in a matter of days. The amazing thing is that OJS is so easy to use, especially in this ready-to-run installation."

"We don't have to pay a publisher (or let one gouge our readers) or even hire a programmer or install software. The content is free and authors retain copyright to their own works."

Scholarly Exchange provides well-supported open-source OJS software that manages as much or as little as of the publication process as needed-from simply providing a professional-looking presentation for journal content to managing the review, copyediting, and typesetting processes.

The Society chose to start the journal without on-screen display advertising, paying instead the minimal cost-recovery support fee. "Luckily, we found Scholarly Exchange, which hosts the space and runs the software for a fraction of the cost of doing that ourselves," added Dr. Kleinman.

Contemporary Management Research

Contemporary Management Research covers business management research from a global perspective, with interests ranging from traditional management topics to e-commerce and Internet marketing. The Academy of Taiwan Information Systems Research sponsors the journal, with an international editorial board.

"Before adopting Open Journal Systems hosted by Scholarly Exchange," said Dr. Chih-Chien Wang, one of CMR's editors, "the journal used e-mail for article submission and peer review. Manuscripts were lost or delayed in the review process. Authors were dissatisfied. Editorial staff spent too much time tracking manuscripts."
